this project is a guesthouse for the main residence, referred to as museum house I. it continues the main house's themes of freedom, mobility, a respect
for the past, and the transformation of the everyday into art. joe mcritchie, architect of the primary Los Angeles residence, consulted on the project
but determined no major architectural changes were needed.
the design team removed decaying finishes, whitewashed the entire house—floor and ceiling, wood and brick—and replaced the existing flagstone
porch with a concrete surface. the result is a pure, modernist form that serendipitously, mirrors the shape of the main residence.
