graphic artist tom bonauro created the original gary hutton design logo and graphic identity in 1986. he and gary
immediately struck a close friendship. around this time, gary brought the idea of designing a concept for a holiday card
to tom, and thus began the first of 30 editions of sculptures in a box. each year, the concept grew in scope, and each
year a layer of depth was added. first a card, then an object, then a box, then the stuffing, then the wrapping, then the
card, then the stack of 800 boxes to address and mail etc...
2016 is the 30th anniversary of the collaboration. fans and recipients of the project include amy sedaris, gus van sant, michael
stipe and hundreds more.
